If you are a large fan of Naughty Dogs latest creative endeavor, you know of the unique design and depth of the infected creatures. For those who are unfamiliar with these enemies I'll bring you up to speed the best I can. In this universe a fungus infection falls upon society turning them physically and mentally into highly disturbing killing machines. These once human creatures share the trait of fungi in that they have stages of maturity. Unfortunately these stages turn the humans into stronger and stronger monsters.
In the lore of Last of Us we learn of four distinct stages. These include in order of growth the Runner, most human like and fastest, the Stalker, their sight is slightly impaired as the fungi continues to grow, the Clicker, completely blind requiring echolocation to detect, and finally the Bloater, fungal armor plating with a body builder like physique. All of those as nightmarish as they are to think about and encounter within the game couldn't prepare me for what I found out in the concept art above.
This is the fifth and final stage of the infection. It really is hard for me to look at this creature and not wince constantly. Just as the original author from the source below stated, it truly reminds me of a creature from The Thing. I honestly have no words for how much my mind is racing trying to comprehend this very cool find.
What do you think of this beautiful yet sad concept art? Do you think Naughty Dog should've added this final stage of infection into the game? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments below!
