Ah, V/H/S! What a great movie to start our Movie Monday segment with!
Just a quick background on the film, for those of who have haven't seen it, V/H/S is a 2012 anthology horror film. Each of the six short films is filmed in a "found footage" format. These shorts range in their content matter, and each of the films are interconnected through the main plot.

The entirety of this movie is filled with things that as a viewer I felt I have never seen before. The story revolves around a group of criminals who are tired of the small time crimes they're pulling off, so they job at the opportunity to break into a house and steal a v/h/s tape. This is when things start to get... strange. One of the criminals makes the mistake of deciding he would watch the videos and that is his absolute worst mistake. This is where the film starts to take its liberties as a horror film.
The subject matter of each of these shorts is different from tape to tape, ranging from what I think is gargoyles to lovers, and aliens. Of all of these shorts the one that struck me the most is the most realistic of the six. Its titled second honeymoon, and is largely realistic whereas the rest of them have more of a supernatural overtone to them. I want to try to remain as spoiler-free as possible, but let me say, it is something.
All in all, this movie did a lot of things right. It had a loosely connected story, but honestly, that story didn't matter as much as the actual stories of each short. Those were the ones you were really involved in. They were the ones that keep you hooked into the film. They even got a really strong sequel out of it, so obviously they did something right.
I'm logging this one in at a 8.5/10 and it will double as the movie recommendation of the week! if you're looking for a good horror film that you don't have to be to involved in to watch, this is definitely the one for you!
