This might be the most ambitious role playing game ever created. "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" is attempting to pull off what every role playing fan has dreamed of, which is a deep story, with great game play, and an open world that flows together in a very intelligent and fitting way. Microsoft showed off the first genuine game play of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt". The demonstration showed off what "The Witcher 3" is trying to accomplish in a very short demonstration. The demonstration starts with "Geralt" trailing a griffin through the forest using his heightened senses, which is reminiscent of "Detective Vision" from the "Arkham" games. "Geralt" switches this on and follows the trail of the griffin. The amount of detail presented on screen is simply unrivaled in the open world genre, the forest "CD Project Red" is presenting is the most fully realized forest I've ever seen in a game. Continuing on in the demonstration he tracks down the griffin which is sitting on the edge of a cliff, "Geralt slowly approaches the clueless beast, shoots it with a one handed cross bow that releases three arrows. The griffin takes to the sky and "Geralt" is now chasing the beast. the griffin inevitably escapes from "Geralt". Our "Witcher" now begins to follow the blood trail left by the griffin. Here is where "The Witcher 3" begins to really show off just how clever it can be when it comes to melding deep story progression, with an open world setting. "Geralt" stumbles across a woman being dragged through the mud towards a cabin with two other men following. "Geralt" interrupts with his steel sword (which is used for fighting humans). The combat seems to have been a main focus of improvement since "The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings". combat seemed to flow much better and not rely on the player dodging constantly, but more so on parrying, which is a very welcome addition. "CD Project Red" has also added dismemberment, which only adds to the grim nature of "The Witcher's" already dark world. After finishing off the three men he begins talking to the woman. This event was completely optional, the player did not have to engage in this but chose to and the characters (Geralt and the victim) begin discussing what had happened. You as a player do have dialog choices in "The Witcher" games and that has not changed, so it shocked me to see that she asked what "Geralt" was doing out here?"One of "Geralts" responses were "Tracking a griffin". According to "CD Project Red" everything is connected and seamlessly blends together, so you may add a side quest to your list which involves "Geralt" tracking a monster he heard rumors about in town. You as a player go in search of said beast only to stumble across another character in the world that can give you information on the monster. What is even more impressive is that these can also be connected to the main story progression which is one of "The Witcher 2's" more impressive qualities. It just makes everything feel organic and real as if there is a reason to doing theses side missions apart from a random NPC offered you two hundred gold for the return of his lost dog. After talking to the woman he continues his hunt of the griffin, which lead him to the top of a relatively large hill. Once at the top the griffin is waiting on top of a mountain and immediately takes flight and engages Geralt". The creature lands and begins to claw, bite and stomp at "Geralt". After a few moments of combat the griffin is wounded and attempts to fly away and circle around for an aerial attack, but before the beast can get close enough "Geralt shoots the beast out of the air and it crashes to the ground. A cut scene then starts and the griffin claws "Geralts" sword out of his hands. Our "Witcher" unsheathes what seems to be a silver sword (which is used to slay monsters) but the sword was glowing so I'm not too sure if this was a unique "Sign" put on the sword or if it was just for this demonstration to show off a very critical weapon in the game. The griffin lets out it's final roar before "Geralt" decapitates it and hooks it's head to his horse and rides into town. "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" will be available on February 24th, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox one. Check out the stage demo from Microsoft's' press conference.
