Forget big hitters like Interstellar, The Avengers Trailer, or any other big name movie thats been in the news lately as there is a new controversy in town, The Interview.
Lots of info coming so I will try to keep it short and sweet for all you beautiful people.
Recently Sony Pictures had a major data hack which resulted in many emails, personal documents, and movie news being uploaded for the masses to see. How does this tie in with The Interview? Upon further research the FBI has apparently gained evidence that the original hack originates to...you guessed it, North Korea. Even more troubling is the fact that major theater companies stated they would not be showing the film on account of threats and violence to those that show it.
While Sony made it known that it was up to the specific theaters whether they wanted to show the film, their stance quickly changed with the news of potential terrorist attacks on viewers and employees of said locations. The baddies succeeded as over the past few hours or so Sony has pulled the movie release from theaters on its Christmas day launch, essentially canceling the title.
My opinion on this whole ordeal...I can understand both sides. Terrorist threats post 9-11 are highly more volatile then they will ever be again and its something the world need to take serious. On top of this cyber attacks on a company with honest workers who don't need their personal information out in the open is a tragedy and god send. It shows that we are human, we make mistakes, and we learn from them. Every major company most likely took a look at their security and sent a urgent email to higher ups immediately.
On the other hand, how far as a society are we going to go before wearing a specific color shirt offends someone? This was a comedic film made for entertainment purposes. The world as a whole needs to get over itself with how serious things need to be. We all trip, look stupid sometimes, fart, laugh, cry, etc, why be uptight about everything. It's okay to not like something but don't be a bigot and ruin another's enjoyment, especially with a film that is made to make people laugh. For god sake we have pornography that has political leaders having sex along with the Simpsons having a love fest in their living room. Relax yourselves people, we will all die one day, enjoy the ride while it lasts.
